However, when it comes to going to the beach I always hesitate. I love the feeling of being at the beach and hearing the tireless waves vanish but the thing is that I don't know how to swim. (shameful, I know!) But, who can say "no" to Cancun?
I've had some bad experiences with the ocean before. One that comes to my mind right now happend a couple of years ago. While on a trip to Puerto Vallarta (Jalisco, Mexico) my boyfriend, Jose, persuaded me & finally talked me into going snorkeling. As scared as I was, I pulled myself together and my life vest and I ventured into the water. Needless to say, I was in panic mode and didn't do much snorkeling but I did get stung by jellyfish! Not the bad deadly kind (thankfuly), but regular old painful jellyfish.
While in Cancun, we visited the beautiful ecological park of Xcaret. If you have never been there you need to immediately pack your bags, throw in your bathing suit, eco-friendly tanning lotion, an underwater camera, and fly there like, RIGHT NOW!!!
We went snorkeling again but this time in Cenotes and natural underground rivers that had beautiful fish and caves that gave me the feeling of being in a dream. I loved the experience! (no jellyfish!!!)
I guess that you just have to be defiant and keep trying until you conquer your fear. I must admit, it was a little scary when I got in the water, specially because it was in a cave, but my fear gave in to the beauty and dreamy feeling of floating in a magical water world. Before I knew it, it was over but I was ready to go back and do it again!
